Research Project Overview and Description:
Titled Seeing with Algorithms: An Exploration of AI-Generated Visual Representations of Imagery in Chinese Classical Poetry, this digital humanities study examines how generative AI models (such as Midjourney, DALL-E 3, and Stable Diffusion) interpret and visually render culturally specific, symbolic, and ambiguous imagery from classical Chinese poetry. It highlights semantic and aesthetic shifts occurring when AI text prompts are fed in original Chinese versus English translations.
Research Outcome:
Expected deliverables include a curated dataset of AI-generated images, a bilingual interactive online poetry-image gallery website, a peer-reviewed academic journal article, and embedding visualizations mapping out semantic shifts across modalities. Funding (Seed Fund for Student):
