Research Project Overview and Description:
This project focuses on Carl Jung’s psychological types theory to create a 2D Metroidvania game called Nyxia: Echoes of the Dream. The plot features a protagonist exploring a simulated virtual world formed by a dream machine using her own subconscious structure. The project investigates the cross-disciplinary relationship between technology and analytical psychology by mapping game areas and bosses directly to Jung’s eight cognitive functions.
Research Outcome:
A functional game deployment on Steam serving as an immersive tool for personal growth, exploration of identity, and reflections on mental health. The team intends to deliver one playable subarea within a year and a complete playable main area demo before June 2027.
