Tuyoo Games Field Trip

HKU Arts undergraduates joined Tuyoo Games in Beijing for a 14-day AI in Gaming internship and training field trip. The placement was unpaid, taught in Mandarin, and limited to 20 students.

Dates  24 May–6 June 2026, Beijing.

Before departure  Information session on 1 April 2026. Applications closed on 7 April at 23:59. Shortlisted students interviewed with Tuyoo HR on Zoom. A refundable deposit of HK$7,000 was due by 20 April. HKU Arts subsidised flights, accommodation, and visa fees where applicable.

In Beijing  A two-week bootcamp on game development and publishing: game design, AI game development, game engines, AI art, advertising, data analysis, storyboarding, video production, and AI in content marketing. Teaching was led by Peng Zhai, Project Incubation Centre, and Lixing Zhang, Game Publishing Centre.

Close  Students completed the placement and submitted a final report. The deposit is returned after the 14 days and the report.

Techno-Humanities Summer Research Programme

High school students, aged 16–18, spent four weeks at Run Run Shaw Tower on mentor-led research projects. Teams of three worked in English, in person, and closed each week with a judged showcase.

Week 1  20–24 July, Room 10.66. Transition Guide, an advising platform for major life transitions, and Reading Reviews, a sentiment study of novels. Showcase on 24 July, 14:30–16:30.

Week 2  27–31 July, Room 4.35. A learning platform for horse racing and equestrian sport, and Live Window, an interactive display. Showcase on 31 July, 14:30–16:30.

Week 3  3–7 August, Room 4.35. AI as Friends, on meaningful digital support, and Stories Reborn, AI videos for cultural memory. Showcase on 7 August, 14:30–16:30.

Week 4  10–14 August, Room 4.19. Living Landmarks, a digital guide to local memory, and Before It Disappears, an online archive for culture and memory. Showcase on 14 August, 14:30–16:30.

Each week  Monday opened at 10:00 with a welcome, an Arts Tech Lab tour, and a keynote, then workshops through Friday. Students who completed the week received a Certificate of Completion. One student received the Excellence in Creativity Award.

Future Visuals: Storytelling with AI

A five-day camp at Run Run Shaw Tower, 9–13 August 2026. Students chose AI Avatar or AI Video, worked in teams of three, and presented a finished piece to HKU faculty.

Arrival  Dormitory check-in on Sunday 9 August for students who had applied for housing.

10 August  Coach to HKU at 09:30. Welcome, lab tour, and Storytelling and its future with AI. A main-campus visit, then History, Mechanism, and Ethics of AI. Tracks and teams were set in the afternoon. Avatar students started 3D models. Video students started screenplays.

11 August  Guest talk with Esme. Avatar students applied their 3D models and began chatbot code. Video students built reference images and keyframes.

12 August  Guest talk with Angus Lee. Avatar students selected an AI model. Video students generated and edited their films.

13 August  Check-out in the morning, final studio from 11:00, and the showcase from 14:30 to 17:00. Every student who completed the camp received a Certificate of Completion. One to two groups in each track received an award.
