Research Project Overview and Description
This project utilizes advanced digital 3D, AI, and data science to enhance the study of ancient pottery from the Ararat Plain Southeast Archaeological Project in Armenia. The initiative seeks to explore details about ancient vessel usage and site abandonment while advancing AI’s capability to process complex real-world datasets.

Researcher Bio
Prof. Peter J. Cobb is an Associate Professor of Archaeology in the School of Humanities at the University of Hong Kong. Prof. Cobb leads the Ararat Plain Southeast Archaeological Project (APSAP) together with the Armenian Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography. APSAP conducts archaeological fieldwork in Armenia each summer in order to better understand past life and mobility in the Vedi River Valley. Prof. Cobb also develops innovative digital methods for archaeological research, including 3D data capture, computer vision, machine learning, and mixed reality applications. His research aims to create new opportunities for cultural heritage research, education, and public engagement.
