
Abstract
We are excited to welcome Dr. Sean McMinn, Director of the Center for Education Innovation at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), for a thought-provoking session on metacognitive strategies in creative and academic fields.
Metacognition allows individual to take strategic movements on their projects and learning by utilizing knowledge about learning strategies, project management and cognitive science. As artificial intelligence reshapes how we create, analyze, and innovate, this talk will explore how artists, writers, and researchers can harness self-awareness, reflective thinking, and adaptive learning to retrieve their originality and quality thought process in an AI-driven world.
Dr. McMinn will discuss practical frameworks for integrating metacognitive practices into creative workflows and research methodologies, empowering participants to critically assess their own thinking processes, leverage AI tools effectively, and navigate ethical challenges. Whether you’re refining a novel, designing digital art, or conducting cutting-edge research, this session offers actionable insights to elevate your work in the age of AI.

Dr. Sean McMinn
As the Director of the Center for Education Innovation at HKUST, Dr. McMinn is a leading advocate for transformative pedagogical practices and technology-enhanced learning. With decades of experience in higher education, he specializes in designing innovative curricula that bridge creativity, critical thinking, and digital literacy. His work emphasizes metacognitive development and effective communication, helping learners across disciplines—from the arts to STEM—cultivate self-regulated learning strategies in evolving technological landscapes.
As an early adopter of educational technologies, he has led initiatives in AI in education, blended learning, and fully online teaching modes. He currently serves on several international committees, including the AI and Education International Panel, Digital Education Council, Cyber-Physical Learning Alliance, and EduTech Asia organizing committee.
By understanding and applying these strategies, participants can refine their creative processes, make more informed artistic decisions, and push the boundaries of their work!
